awards and accolades

i’ve been blessed to receive recognition for a variety of my efforts in communications. here are a few of my most coveted awards:

journalism honors

Over my time as a student journalist at Lipscomb University, I’ve been blessed to receive awards in a variety of categories at the Southeast Journalism Conference’s Best of the South Awards as well as Region 12 titles in the Society of Professional Journalists.

2022 was my most successful year yet, highlighted by a third-place finish in the coveted Journalist of the Year race. The honor included a cash prize and honors the top student journalists across any medium, platform, or type of content. I was also awarded with Sports Writer of the Year in 2022 alongside a first-place finish for the website I directed, Herd Media. Even further, The Bison won second place in the overall radio station category, a station I also managed during my junior and senior years.

In 2021, I was a primary contributor and provided the audio story for Lumination Network’s coverage of the Dove Awards, which won first place in the Best Use of Multimedia in SPJ’s Region 12 Mark of Excellence category.

With SEJC, 2021 was a highly successful year, as Lipscomb took home more awards than any other school. I contributed to our news website, Lumination Network, which took fifth place for best website, while also leading The Bison to a second-place finish in the Best Radio Station category. I took a personal accolade home in SEJC’s 2021 lineup as the seventh-place finisher among candidates for Best Sports Writer.

During the 2020 school year, the first radio feature story I ever worked on placed me in multiple award categories. Titled “"Kickin’ It 615” and following the story of a soccer non-profit by the same name which hosted a FootGolf charity tournament, the story earned me second place in the Best Radio Feature Reporter category at SEJC. It would later win first place in the SPJ Region 12 category for Radio Sports Reporting, where it eventually competed at SPJ’s national level.
